Hillary Issues Brutal Anti-Trump Ads [VIDEO]

From Mother Jones:

On Wednesday, Hillary Clinton’s campaign wasted no time switching to general election mode, releasing a web video criticizing Trump. But Clinton didn’t do it in her own words; the ad is a compilation of unkind things Trump’s fellow Republicans have said about him during the party’s nomination campaign. It’s harsh. Mitt Romney calls Trump a misogynist, Marco Rubio claims he’s the most “vulgar person to ever aspire to the presidency,” and Jeb Bush says Trump needs therapy. It looks like the Clinton campaign isn’t going to let any of the #NeverTrump Republicans forget that stance anytime soon.

zzzz THERE ARE SO MANY LOCAL BURRITOS 1000%  BETTER THAN CHIPOTLE

Somehow Chipotle has managed to turn their deadly gastrointestinal disease outbreaks into an incredible marketing opportunity—they are closing for not even a full day to make sure their disgusting house is in order, and E!’s headline is topped by a .gif of an alarm. Jezebel says of the news: “Let us pray.” New York Times Business’s headline is, instead of “Chipotle Soon Almost Guaranteed to Not Make You Pee Out Your Butt While You Puke in the Bathtub at the Same Time,” is “Chipotle’s New Mantra: Safe Food, Not Just Fresh.”

zzzzzzzzz

Come the fuck on. If you are looking for a burrito—or even just fresh food, which I mean, isn’t really hard to accomplish when, like Chipotle, your food is 90% rice—you have so many better options in Seattle. We guarantee there is one near your home place of work. So on No Chipotle Day, or like literally any day, you are covered.

La Vaca: These nice folks sell quality burritos out of a window in Pike Place. Their veggie burrito is under $5!

Gorditos: This Greenwood joint is known for their burritos the size of babies, but their regular burritos can still last two meals. This does not mean we are judging when you finish it in one. The tofu filling is the business, and the salsa bar is A+. During the summer, sit out on the patio!

Tacos Chukis: Hidden upstairs in the Alley Building on Broadway (by Laughing Buddha!), Chukis is an underrated gem on the Hill. Their Baby Burritos mean the opposite of what they mean at Gorditos; they’re little. But that means you can get both a cactus and a bean burrito. Get a Hochata, too.

Tacos Guaymas: This local chain is pretty much everywhere—West Seattle, Broadway, Fremont, Green Lake, Tacoma, Lynnwood—and they’re all great, although we’ve found that different locations have slightly different styles. But they all have great salsa bars. Find your fav.

Rancho Bravo: It’s popular for a reason, and that reason is that they are delicious—and customizable! Hot green sauce mixed with hot red sauce is the best sauce.

Taqueria Costa Alegre Taco Bus: A literal bus parked on Rainier Ave and Henderson. There is seating inside the bus for the full experience, or just take it to go.

El Chupacabra: This Phinney Ridge neighborhood staple turned into a local chain a few years ago! Hit this up for some sweet fake chicken and some margs. The SLU location has a great patio for optimal lake-watching.

Why wait for February 8? Just go get yourself a burrito. From one of these places and not Chipotle. You’re worth it.

Honestly I'd replace El Chup with Taco Del Mar but I've only really had negative experiences at the ol' Goat Sucker.

Fosse, Fosse, Fosse! Folsom, Folsom, Folsom!

In what may be their most inspired promotion ever, today the Folsom Street Fair released a Bob Fosse-inspired video in which leather-clad dancers evoke Sweet Charity‘s famed Rich Man’s Frug and other familiar dance famed Fosse routines. You will enjoy this but you probably do NOT may not want to watch it at the office. Wherever you do watch it, put it on full-screen.

No, those women were not plants so please stop fucking spreading that fucking rumor.

Y’all. If one more person shares one more story about how the women who interrupted the Bernie Sanders rally on Saturday were plants, or that they weren’t “really” with BLM, or that BLM has apologized with a non-committal “Hmmm” or a “Really makes you think!”, we are going to have to start lighting things on fire.

This is, simply put, not true. And even if it was – why the fuck do you care so fucking much? What makes you feel better about this?

Armchair activists, upset Sanders fans, and citizen journalists are sharing all kinds of bunk information. They are grasping at straws to discredit this activism. They are digging up dirt on the women and their previous affiliations, actions, religious beliefs, and political alignments. They are questioning whether they were “really” with BLM, or flat-out lying to say that they were paid (by, claims have stated, Clinton, Trump, the CIA, AND EVEN BERNIE SANDERS), as if to say “ah ha! See? A good activist would never do that. A real activist would never interrupt a politician I like! We can discredit this entire thing, now! Ahhhh, I feel better.”

It’s incorrect. It’s divisive. It’s harmful. And if you’d rather believe that than the fact that two Black women had enough reasons to be furious and hurt and afraid, it shows your true colors.

The women are actually from Outside Agitators 206, a local activist group aligned with/inside of BLM that includes “youth, students, workers, parents, teachers, artists, street philosophers, survivalists, revolutionaries, solutionaries, Queer,  Black, Brown, Indigenous, and White Allies.“ They released a statement on their blog

Not enough for you? Here are some more points of clarification:

From Seattle for Bernie Sanders:

“To quell some of the rumors; no these young women were not plants. They are not corporate sponsored antagonists. They do not work for the CIA. They do not work for Hillary.

I know this because I contacted the person who knows them and I asked. And then… I listened. She spoke at our monthly meeting which I feel was the most productive and inclusive meeting yet. Please, hear me when I call for peace. And I call for unity. And I ask for solidarity. We can win this. We really can.”

From Black Lives Matter:

As stated in our mission, #BlackLivesMatter is an ideological and political intervention; we are not controlled by the same political machine we are attempting to hold accountable. In the year leading up to the elections, we are committed to holding all candidates for Office accountable to the needs and dreams of Black people. We embrace a diversity of tactics. We are a decentralized network aiming to build the leadership and power of black people. We do not endorse any political party and we are not supported by any political party. Our political aims we’ve stated clearly.

Historically, all political parties have participated in the systematic disenfranchisement of Black people. Anti-black racism, especially that sanctioned by the state, has resulted in the loss of healthy and thriving Black life and well-being. Given that, we will continue to hold politicians and political parties accountable for their policies and platforms. We will also continue to demand the intentional dismantling of structural racism.

...and also:

The #BlackLivesMatter organization did not create any petitions demanding apology from Seattle based organizers.

From the 16-year-old girl who was the admin for the page that was once called Black Lives Matter Seattle but is now called Black In Seattle:

Hello. My name is Nikki and this will be my first time posting on this page under it’s new name. I would like to address all points of confusion with my page as well as my thoughts on yesterday’s rally.
1.) I started this page under the name Black Lives Matter Seattle with out realizing I had to check with the official chapter members of Seattle and the national network. The name has since been changed to Black in Seattle
2.) The two women that were at the rally yesterday were actually members of BLM Seattle
3.) I have spoken to them and as far as I know, they are not conspirators with any other democratic candidates or the GOP
4.) I personally support Bernie Sanders. But I can not apologize for them or speak for them about what happened yesterday and they have not apologized
Ok, now that that those points are cleared up, I would like to talk about the reasoning behind the interruption. I can see that there are thousands of you who have viewed my page and a lot of you have written in to show your displeasure about it. I was watching MSNBC this morning and women from BLM really shed some light on what happened. This is not the first time a candidate has been interrupted on stage by BLM and it won’t likely be the last. Those women, like many others, are on the front lines of a movement. They are trying to send a message to the candidates that their sympathy is not enough. There needs to be some real change. It may have looked rude to many, but the message must be sent through whatever means necessary and every opportunity must been taken (even if the delivery was poor). Please, let go of your anger towards the women and direct it towards police brutality. Do not let yourself be distracted from the deaths!! People are still dying!! Every28 hours there is another death. THAT is what truly should disgust you. Not everything in a movement can be perfect. But our allegiance to them must still be strong. I still support BLM and I think you all should too.

Numerous members of both the Occupy and Black Lives Matter community in Seattle have attested to these women’s veracity.

But even if all of this were not enough – even if somehow it turned out they were paid just to divide the movement – if you decide you no longer support BLM because of it, or if you pick apart this action because you think it was somehow spurred by anything other than murdered black humans, you need to look yourself right in the eye and ask why.

As Ijeoma Oluo wrote for the Seattle Globalist yesterday, “what does official Black Lives Matter look like? Black people who think that black lives matter seem pretty official to me.”

BLM – a movement that literally just asks for black lives to have any fucking worth – should have your respect and support. Period. Full-stop. If it doesn’t because of one demonstration that you are desperate not to believe, you have some shit to sort through.

Instead of trying to discredit an action which spurred actual change – BERNIE SANDERS NOW HAS A POSITION ON RACE AND SOCIAL JUSTICE AND ALSO HE IS A MORE RECOGNIZABLE CANDIDATE NOW – by spreading rumors, let’s instead move forward toward progress together.

"On a bigger level, I look at the NFL today and I’m as disappointed as ever in its management...."

“On a bigger level, I look at the NFL today and I’m as disappointed as ever in its management. Commissioner Roger Goodell operates at a high level, but he’s doing what 32 owners tell him to do. I once believed that having more retired players in the league office could remedy this, but the former player in the highest position, executive vice president of football operations Troy Vincent, continues to disappoint. When he told Adrian Peterson he’d receive a two-game suspension and the league failed to deliver, he became just another suit.”

-

Richard Sherman, writing for MMQB. MMBQ. Go read the entire thing.**

This quote seems especially important because we got a question in our inbox asking how we could be Seahawks fans.

"The NFL is a horrible organization. They are openly sexist and racist. Why would you choose to give your money to them?” asked one of our readers.

To which we would say: The Seahawks — the actual human beings who play the game of football, which is a game we love — are some of the most inspirational, diverse, fascinating group of people. We support that team. We listen when they speak. And we, like Sherman and like a lot of NFL players, expect more from the League.

We are fully aware that the NFL is an indefensible organization, run terribly by not-good people. But the players that we love and support (and the coaches and the thousand of people employed by the NFL) are not. The NFL rarely gets our money; instead, small local businesses (like the bars we hit up on game day) do.

Are we being advertised to at every turn during every game? Absolutely. But no McDonald’s ad that tells us kale is for wussies is really going to spur us to make purchases.

We also see the NFL as a microcosm for many of the larger issues we often struggle with, including labor and wage issues, race relations, and misogyny. And often, when you address those things on a micro level (like when you point out ableist language during a sports broadcast) it’s a lot easier for people to pick up what you’re throwing down. By being literate in football, we are able to talk to more people about a broader range of progressive issues. Ignoring the sport and the NFL completely would make that impossible.

Here’s the other thing — for its many, many problems, the NFL (and the NCAA, and professional sporting generally) can also be a positive force when done right.

To quote Richard Sherman again:

Circumstances dictate where you start—a single mother raised Kam Chancellor to become the man he is today—but each individual determines his course. Where I came from, in Compton, kids were brainwashed into thinking that if they weren’t athletes or rappers or drug dealers they were nothing. My son will understand that he’s in control of his own destiny and that education, work ethic and discipline will guide him to an even better life than I’ve enjoyed. He’ll be the man who makes this world a better place through positive actions and influence.

Should the NCAA do a better job intervening before sexual and domestic assault becomes an issue? Of course. Should the NCAA and the League be held accountable for creating cultures of entitlement that foster sexism and homophobia and violence? Definitely. Is the NFL run terribly now? Absolutely.

Does that mean there’s nothing to be salvaged? Absolutely not.

People who love a thing are the best ones to demand change.

We don’t believe in writing things off because they are problematic, we believe in encouraging positive change. We believe in being critical of the things you love, and in expecting more. We love our city, and we love our team, and we think there’s plenty of room for that.

Here’s some more reading about the NFL if you’d like to learn more:
